The procedure consists of three quick steps:
• Creating an ultra thin flap of corneal tissue that is temporarily folded back during treatment

Prior to the development of the femtosecond laser, the corneal flap was created with a mechanical metal blade. This had inherent significant risks, including rough flaps, incomplete flaps, amputated and lost flaps, and an inability to customize the flap to the patient's unique corneal shape. These complications could cause not only no improvement in vision, but actually loss of vision! Femtosecond lasers eliminate the need for a blade and improve safety, enhance precision and improved the visual results.
The Lens Sx Femtosecond Laser is the world's fastest and most precise flap creation laser. Dr. Bowers can create a customized flap unique to your eye in just a few seconds. These flaps are more precise and thinner, which preserve precious corneal tissue and decrease the risk of dry eye symptoms postoperatively. They also heal more securely, resulting in a flap that is stronger and more resistant to injury. In addition, this laser is significantly more comfortable than the bladed microkeratome or any other femtosecond laser on the market.
EyeQ Laser fingerprint The first step in a customized treatment is to obtain the unique "fingerprint" of your eye. With traditional LASIK, which is still offered by a large portion of the ophthalmologists in the U.S., your prescription was based on the testing results used to prescribe glasses (better one or better 2?). Every person who had the same prescription got the same treatment. The problem is that no two eyes are the same! Dr. Bowers uses a very fine instrument to reposition the protective flap. This flap adheres immediately and is more secure and adherent than any other LASIK flap because of it's unique construction.
